I think the Carter trade turned out well because Couturier fell to their spot, but Jake is not a top 10 player in the league after a career year in a strike shortened season. I'd wager anything he won't repeat it next season.
I do not think Cooter is the only reason the Carter trade worked out well. Cousins could be something decent for this team down the road as well.
As far as Jake, I think Jake is something good now and will be for awhile, especially on the top line with G. I believe that top line if they can get someone on the left side who is a presence(prefferably big and can shoot) he can get some big numbers. I feel he will get more comfortable on the right1/2 board on the PP next season and possibly be the mirror image of G from a threat perspective, possibly netting 30 goals next season. If Hartsy shows up next season and can play the way he did in 2011-12 there will be even more space for both G and Jake the Snake(as my 7yo girl calls him) to work.
With Richie's deal, I have been a backer of Simmer and BSchenn, and ATM I am still on the fence with this deal. Because I love how Simmer is developing into a top notch PP force. He may not be great as a 5v5 player and this is why I am on the fence. Jumping off the fence to either side resides on BSchenn's play next season for me, if he turns it on next season and plays like a 2nd line center and nets 65-75 points with spurts of leadership, than the deal will be justified.
